IV. County Commissioner Meeting
Lots of discussion ensued regarding a meeting requested by the county commissioner in the Courthouse Annex room 201. This is the largest room available in the courthouse, suggesting the commissioner is expecting many people to attend, however it is unclear if this is a public meeting (press invited) or a private meeting to determine the camp’s intentions to stay. The commissioner has suggested “5 people [from the movement] attend.” Many people are uncomfortable with this meeting as those 5 will be misunderstood by the media if they are in attendance as “representing Occupy.” This meeting is closely linked to the next subject, Options and Setting an End Date for the camp, and al three were discussed together at length.
V. Other Options/Camp End Date.
Many suggestions were made for how and for how long to continue the camp, and how to continue the movement without necessarily continuing to camp on the courthouse lawn. A straw poll was conducted on the following options: 1. Set an encampment end date, 2. Continue camp with no end date, 3. Just let the campers decide; there was no overwhelming response for or against of any of these options. There was much discussion before the subjects were tabled for further discussion following the meeting.
VI. Future GAs
Accessibilty of the GA meetings and facilitator meetings was a concern. There are forums and internet streaming of the meetings. Watch the website and forums or go tot eh information booth at the courthouse lawn for more info.
It was agreed that the GA meetings are vital. They will continue to be held 3 days a week: Tuesdays and Thursday at 6pm at the courthouse camp
One meeting each weekend to be determined, but likely a the library as their schedule permits.
VII. Incident Report
Curtis prepared and read an incident report regarding the underage alcohol incident that occurred last week, which outlines the details of the incident including the camp’s zero-tolerence policy for drinking and that those involved were not involved int eh Occupy movement. Occupiers reported the incident and took steps to resolve it. His report was adopted as the official report for OM, with one word change to incorporate “allegedly.” That report will likely be available on………………drumroll please……….occupymissoula.org and or the OM forums.
VIII. AOB
The meeting ended and discussion continued regarding the county commissioner meeting and future of the camp. No one but the GA can speak for the Occupation. The only decision to come from the discussion is that we must find out if the county commissioners’ meeting is open or closed. If it is open, everyone should go. If closed, get feedback from the county commissioner to bring to the GA. If the commissioner is only interested in the courthouse lawn, the only statement to give them is that the GA is exploring that issue (e.g. the endurance of the camp) and has no answer currently. The commissioner is welcome to bring concerns to the GA.
