Bill the porta-potty guy will come tomorrow to clean and he will also be taking 2 of the 5 units away. Mark will talk to him about costs and etc. To keep three units, one wheel chair access and two walk in access. The cost will be approximately $285.
We have $50 in our wepay account and a small amount of petty cash.

Well...no worries about the porta-potties. They're gone.
Some law abiding citizens, non-OWS sorts decided to knock two of them over last night. Thanks to Kelsey, Donnie, Mark, Curtis, Mary Alice and Walt who (literally) shoveled shit, scrubbed the sidewalk with bleach water, and directed traffic around the whole affair while it was drying. All in all, things looked pretty good when we left.
Many thanks also to Shannon Therriault (Environmental Health guru at the County Health Dept) for answering all my questions as quickly as possible so that we could take care of the hazard by the county's standards and keep the public safe. As a side note, Shannon tells me that because we exist in enough of a gray area (we're not behaving like a temporary event but nor do we have building/structures which would, according to county law, require us to have sewer resources) the fact that we have access to public restrooms is enough, by law, to provide for us. The Oxford is open 24/7 and has said that we CAN use the restrooms there as long as we don't come over all at once.
The anonymous donor made the decision to have the units removed after hearing about the vandalism. They did not want to be responsible for any further damage that might be done. Thanks also to Bill at Superior Septic who came and got them ASAP and didn't charge us for the pick up or the cleaning that will have to be done to the inside of the units that were tipped over. (So far anyway)

guess what folks! we have a new spanking clean porta-potty at the newly reforming encampment on the courthouse lawn again. it's along the west sidewalk, chained and padlocked to a granddaddy tree. it's a 'donation' (or a lure, or maybe even an attempt of apology) either directly or indirectly from the county, or maybe just larry, the grounds keeper? don't know for sure. but it's there, where it fits into the overall map of the tent village plans, where it can easily be accessed and watched over by the round the clock security perched in the gazebo. so, perhaps larry gets some flowers as a thank you so we don't get into some stupid pattern of feeling that we owe them for this....after all, we've been thru i hope we've learned our lesson. WE DON'T OWE THE COUNTY ANYTHING! ~~becca

Okay, so don't use the "owe" language if you don't like it, but can't we voluntarily thank Larry and the Commissioners for the positive things they've done? I personally have witnessed nothing but respect from them for our movement. Let's recognize that the removal of the porta-potties brought on the recent problems, & that County personnel also had to deal with the various factions in the community that were latching on to OM and bringing behavioral problems to the site. I don't think negativity gets us anywhere. So, Becca, I like everything you said above except the last line. It just strikes me as divisive when we need unity.

No negativity from me...just the comment that removing the porta-johns didn't "bring on" anything that didn't already exist while they were there if you ask me (and I recognize that you didn't). There was plenty of double talk from the powers-that-be and plenty of pooping on the lawn before, during and after Occupy Missoula arrived at the court house. Just sayin' ~kathlene~
