1. Summary of Occupy the Capital. 127 people marched, about 200 met at the capital and held a soapbox session. Afterwards everyone reconvened at Hill Park for food and a GA. Occupy Montana is continuing as an extension of relationships built per the Occupy movement. Occupy movements from around the state are communicating via occupymissoula.org chat forum with regular meetings, one is being held tonight and anyone is welcome to join. Go to occupymissoula.org and click on Chat in the right side menu, or go to tinychat.com/occupymissoula.
2. Tonight’s GA Meeting space (Union Hall) normally requires a fee to cover the heating, but the Central labor Council is sponsoring this meeting.
3. Transition Town lecture/Steve Running. Thursday 11/10/11, 7 pm at the University Congregational Church. More info at: events.umt.edu/?calendar_id=73&y=2011&m=11&d=10&eventdatetime_id=7189&
4. There was a petition passed around to the Public Service Commission to oppose Carlyle’s purchase of Missoula’s water.
5. The website calendar is being updated regularly—please send the dates and details you announce a the GA to OM@gmail.com to have them added to the calendar (Go to occupymissoula.org and click on Calendar of Event in the right side menu).
6. Debby is organizing a webinar on Tinychat called “Seeing the Forest For the Trees “ about the consensus model, interpersonal communication, and conflict resolution. Talk to Debby to help out or for more info go to the OM proboard forum at occupymissoula.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=dtw&thread=65&page=1#561.
7. Occupy the Oval: GAs every Friday at noon on the oval. Using and learning about the people’s mic. Occupy the Oval effort overlapped with Take back the Night, and both went well, about 50 people participated in TBTN.
8. Movie showing tonight/V for Vendetta. Talk to Claire or Ivy.
II. Work Group Reports
a. Communications. The “We Pay” (sp?) online donation forum is being set-up again. It is being changed from the name it was under. We Pay brings money to the movement for everything, not just camp considerations. ** We still need a finance committee! **
The tech group needs more help. Email occupymissoula@gmail.com if you want to lend a hand.
There is no official communications and outreach group currently! Ideas? Take them to the forum, or email occupymissoula@gmail.com. There are people working on reviving that group.
b. Logistics: The encampment is now more of an information center. Houseless/homeless disruptions still a problem. There are two periods of concern:
12am to 3am (Drunken visitors)
6am to 2pm: no one to (wo)man the info booth
A sign up sheet was passed around and logistics was happy that some of those problems would be alleviated.
Food is scaled back now, not much cooking going on at the camp.
The camp wants a wall tent so communication can take place at the courthouse, a previous lead on getting one fell through. There was discussion of how to ensure those staying at the encampment can attend the GAs
c. Development/Teach-ins: See Kim or go to the proboards thread at occupymissoula.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=dtw&thread=31&page=2#635.
d. Direct Action: This group is also in need of reinforcements! There is one brave soul heading it up right now, and a thread going at the proboards. There are some direct actions that are ongoing: as the junk mail project (see Ivy), a suggestion that we put an OM sign in all our yards, and flee-the-big banks and go credit union movement. Guess where you can find more info? Proboards.
III. Discussion & Proposals
a. Proposal: Make proboards site available as an app so it can be used on portable device. Consensus/Passed.
b. Recommendation and discussion: Watch the film posted here and here. Much discussion around when and where to show the film, an official showing was tabled but people can see the video at either the OM website or proboards.
c. Proposal: Create a process to allow anonymous posting on OM sites. Tabled pending further discussion in the communications work group. ***A communications work group is needed![/b] The Tech guys have their hands full with tech, and can’t do outreach and be responsible for messaging!*** Tech asked that the comm. Group comes up with guidelines to help them know how moderate. A sign up sheet for a communications working group was passed around.
IV. Next GA
Future GAs will be held:
Tuesdays 5pm, at the Encampment, followed by a potluck and laughter at 6pm.
Sundays at 2pm at the Union Hall or at the Library, depending on library availability.
An open forum will be held prior to every Sunday GA from 1pm to 2pm. Discussion will be open to all and focus on ideas and strategies for shaping the future of this movement. Everyone is welcome!
