i'm sorry casey, i just can't sign up for it. $$ stuff i don't do so well. i'd suck at it. never did get good with the cash register at the co-op either. altho i wouldn't mind going around to find donors for supplies directly, ie: coffee deliveries from a variety of coffee shops, and trash pick-up, water jug delivery, and regular hot breakfast or lunches being dropped of from local businesses. ~~becca

I am also not good at money stuff. But nobody else was stepping up to figure it out so here I find myself. Oh well, I'll do my best. I think your idea of organizing donors is good one. For now I think the finance group needs to focus on how to deal with our group $. ie accounting, transparentcy, and process. But that does not mean others should not do fundraising! -casey

The Finance Working Group is working on the following proposal for the GA on Sunday. Feel free to take a look at this draft so you can help us hammer out details:
The Finance Working Group facilitates the cooperative use of funds for Occupy Missoula.
The Finance Working Group does not act as an approval/disapproval process for working group expenditures except in cases of legality and duplication of inventory or services
The Finance Working Group strongly suggests that all working groups to solicit donations of goods and services before taking steps to request cash for those goods/services.
The Finance Working Group encourages working groups to make all purchases of goods and services be made at locally owned businesses.
Proposal for Dispersal of Occupy Missoula General Funds
1) When it becomes necessary to purchase goods/services, a working group should reach consensus regarding that purchase and research its costs. 2) In the case of a purchase that amounts to $20 or less, each working group is encouraged to raise funds from among its membership and supporters. 3) In the case of a purchase that amounts to less than $50, no General Assembly consensus is required. 4) In the case of a purchase that amounts to more than $50, or is a recurring expenditure, General Assembly consensus is required. 5) In the case of all purchases, the working group is required to write a brief proposal describing the need for funding and indicate whether the purchase is a one time event or a recurring expenditure (ex: paint for an Arts & Culture event vs. propane for the encampment). 6) Once the working group has prepared its proposal, it will bring that proposal to the Finance Working Group in order to be vetted for legality or duplication of purchases. 7) Once the proposal has been vetted by the Finance Working Group, the working group will take its proposal to the General Assembly for consensus and/or ammendment. 8) If General Assembly consensus is reached, the working group will return to the Finance Working Group for dispersal of funds. 9) If General Assembly consensus is not reached, the working group will ammend its proposal and begin the process again. 10) Consensus on any financial expenditure must appear in the General Assembly minutes or no dispersal of funds will take place. 11) Dispersal of funds, if funds are available, will occur within 48 hours (when possible) of General Assembly minutes being published on the proboards. 12) If funds are not available, dispersal of funds will occur in the order they were approved as soon as funds become available.
