What: Public Comment / Support regarding the City of Missoula's membership in ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability.
Where: 140 West Pine Street, Missoula, (downtown next to Sean Kelly's, near the Mountain-line bus station).
When: Monday December 5th, 7pm.
The City of Missoula's efforts to become more sustainable and energy efficient has recent came under attack by fringe elements of UN conspiracy theorists and out-of-town anti-government activists. Your help is needed by showing-up and providing public comment at the next Missoula city council meeting this Monday December 5th, 7pm at 140 West Pine Street.
If you care about getting a Missoula climate action plan adopted next year, than please speak up this Monday. Wednesday's public comments to a city council committee came from a fringe element that does not merely ignore the science about climate change; but reconciles their doubt of the evidence by resorting to a conspiracy theory about world domination. The opposition drummed up Wednesday is part of a coordinated effort -- polymontana.com/2011/09/22/new-strategies-in-the-fight-to-stop-agenda-21/ -- and support for making a change, even staying the course, will require your advocacy for the sustainable direction Missoulians want to head.
A key initiative the city wants to forward in the near future is a climate action plan. The City of Missoula is a member of the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives, aka: ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability. ICLEI provides an immense body of resources and assistance for municipalities desiring to move toward being more sustainable. The city's membership in this organization is what the out-of-town conspiracy theorists are challenging.
Please participate and be prepared to tell city council that moving forward with sustainable, energy efficient, reduced carbon footprint initiatives is exactly the direction this city must be headed. It is important that our community support city council and the City of Missoula's good work on sustainable initiatives and a climate action plan.

NOTE: I am passing this message on on behalf of several friends and will make an announcement at Sunday;s GA as well. If you plan to speak, please be prepared and keep your statement to 3 minutes or less! Comments will be limited to 3 minutes each because there are likely to be lots of people there on this matter! -Kim
