Howdy All - I've been involved in political action throughout periods of my life beginning in 1969 (oh man!) demonstrating against the Viet Nam War. I'm about as Liberal/Progressive as you can get and
I wear those banners proudly. My current heroes in politics are Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and Alan Grayson. I've volunteered for several years with Citizen Action of New York and most recently (not counting Occupy) with Repower America, and have been an organizer for both political and issue campaigns. I'm heavily environmentally driven and have worked to organize local support to influence a Democratic filibuster to prevent drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. I also love the American (Global for that matter) Labor Movement, and with 2 other employees was able to organize and establish a blue collar union for employees in the municipality I worked for. (IUOE)
I am sorry a lot of work we did over the last few decades was not able to be more effective in solving important issues in this country.
I've never been involved with a movement structured like this Occupy effort. Purely organic, diverse in scope, and with so much potential to effect real, lasting change. A platform to engage, to wake up the comfortable and cynical public, to evolve politics for the benefit of the common good. I am happily learning still. Let's not blow this chance. You people are awesome.
Oh yeah, I moved here about 4 and a half years ago from Upstate New York. Hence the Yankees hat.
